What would you look for in your “forever” home?
A survey of 2,00 homeowners has been carried out by Origin, window manufacturers, as to what type of home they would want to live in for the rest of their lives (Homebuilding and Renovating Magazine, November 2017)
Perhaps not surprisingly, when questioned about location, over 50% of those who participated said that they would love a sea view from their windows. In second place was the ever popular view of the countryside with hills and fields of cattle. Bottom for location was a house that provided a view of a football stadium. It would seem that there were a lack of football fans surveyed who would love to be able to worship their football team from a very close distance!
The design of the house should also ideally be detached.
The research showed that from a home owners point of view the main external requirement was a driveway.
Internally, the ideal property has a large kitchen and breakfast room. A separate playroom is an essential option for those with young children as is four bedrooms, two bathrooms and two en-suites for a family home. In addition, this dream home has a very spacious living area with two reception rooms, a large living room and a dining room. A utility room is also important.
The Lifetime Homes Standard
When thinking about building a “forever” home most people do not think about the time when children have “flown the nest” and there may be a need for adaptations as they age. Lifetime Homes give invaluable advice on flexible designs that you could consider at the start of your build. Take a look at their website – www.lifetimehomes.org.uk
This is, of course, a dream home that you may or may not be able to afford to build. We do have a substantial number of four bedroomed house designs (45) on our site so why not start looking for your “forever” home?
