This week in the HPD office, we’ve been putting some bungalow house renovation ideas to the test. One of our oldest and most popular house plans, the Highbridge, is currently being customised for a client, so we decided it was time to give the original design a facelift.
Advances in architectural software and rendering technology, even in the last couple of years, have made it possible to produce results that back in 2015 were out of the reach of anyone but the largest firms. The layout of the Highbridge remains as popular and flexible as ever, but we felt the exterior needed a bit more kerb appeal. So we’ve come up with three new exterior designs to show how this humble family bungalow house can be made to look contemporary or country, without changing anything internally.
The ‘contemporary’ version changes the material palette to through-coloured white render – a most for any modern design these days – with corrugated steel roofing and bold metal facade cladding to provide visual interest. Bifold doors, skylights and an open-plan living area add to the light and airy interior.
The second revamp gives the Highbridge more of a rustic, country feel; timber-effect cladding to the external walls and clay roofing in earthy colours combine with heritage-style timber windows and doors for a genuinely rural aesthetic.
These are two of just hundreds, if not thousands, of different style combinations that can be applied to any of our designs to make it uniquely yours. We always encourage customers to look at the layout of a design first to make sure that works for them, as everything else falls into place around it. None of the alternative designs above required any work to the floor plan, save for maybe removing an internal wall or two in the living / dining / kitchen area, which is a quick and easy change to make.
So if one of our designs is almost right for you, but needs some work to give it the look you want, we hope the above bungalow exterior design show what is possible and how any of our off-the-shelf designs can be made completely unique.
