Consumer tastes evolve constantly, as do the technologies and building methods which create them. So it is inevitable that from time to time, designs which have been committed to paper (or PDF, in our case) will need a fresh look.
The Turnastone is our case study in this instance, and it’s an interesting example. Originally created for a private customer in north Herefordshire in 2016, we felt at the time it was one of our bungalow designs and layouts worth sharing. The customer we designed it for loved it – but three years later, it seems not many other people did! Taste is personal, I guess…
Over the intervening years, customers enquired about changing the Turnastone to suit their own needs and preferences. People seemed to like the shape of the bungalow and the use of contemporary finishes like corrugated steel roofing and fibre cement weatherboarding. But the feedback was always that it wasn’t quite right.
It’s not just building technologies that change though – software too makes continual advances. We have been able to improve the visual representations of our designs with more realistic renderings thanks to new software. So when the time came to give the Turnastone a freshen up, we didn’t just give it a new image, we took the opportunity to revamp it totally.
New features were introduced which the old design missed. The corridor connecting the two wings was given a new ‘snug’ to take advantage of views to the rear of the house. The living and sleeping wings were swapped so that a new open-plan living area looked out across a new patio. The contemporary styling was augmented with some more traditional, rural features. And this is the result:
We hope you’ll agree that it was worth the effort and that little bit of TLC. You can see the full design on the Turnastone design page, and more images on our Instagram. For more bungalow designs and layouts, check our our full bungalow range.
